The Friends of Freeman Library
Help Make Exciting Things Happen!
The Jocelyn H. Lee Digital Media Lab
Newly opened on the second floor of the Library, the Digital Media Lab will provide free opportunities to create, edit, and even convert music, video, and images with state-of-the-art equipment. Time in the Lab is available in up to two hour blocks after completing an orientation session with Raymond Harbert, Technology Trainer. The Friends provide financial support to make this project possible and to fund ongoing operation.
Since then, the Library has earned attention from American Libraries magazine, Public Libraries online, KPRC2 Houston, Clear Lake Connection, The Washington Post, ABC News, Inside Edition, New York Daily News, Houston Chronicle, Huffington Post, Fox News Health, several Fox News TV affiliates, the Swedish Library Association, India Today, the Bobby Bones show (radio), and the Texas Standard (radio, NPR). Patrick will also be authoring an article on the project for the upcoming issue of the Texas Library Journal. “It’s not the most technically challenging thing we’ve ever done,” he said, “but it’s certainly the most heartwarming.”
Friends of Freeman provides key support to the Innovation Lab by helping to meet the day-to-day financial needs. We’re very proud of Patrick and volunteers Mike, Robert, and John for the time and effort they put into this project!
Innovation Lab Lending a Helping Hand
Freeman Library and the Jocelyn H. Lee Innovation Lab received overwhelming media coverage recently for the efforts of Innovation Lab Trainer Patrick Ferrell and volunteers Mike Craig, Robert Bannon, and John Colborn. On the waiting list for a prosthetic arm for their daughter, Katelyn, the Vincik family from Victoria, TX contacted our team. Combining their expertise and utilizing the Lab’s 3D printers, tools and equipment, they made one for her using a design on the website “Enabling the Future.” On July 30, Patrick delivered the hand to Katelyn himself, much to her delight.
The Jocelyn H. Lee Innovations Lab
Located on the second floor of the Library, the Innovations Lab is a cutting-edge Creator Space that brings together creativity, innovation, and experimentation in an exciting setting. The Friends support the Lab primarily by providing necessary operational funding.
